The brief was to re-design this overgrown garden and create a courtyard to link the house with the garden, very much a fluid inside/outside experience. Further requirements included a water feature and an area of natural play for the children around the existing apple tree. We achieved this by creating two sets of shallow steps opposite each other to give access to the children play area and by commissioning a bespoke corten steel water tank. The planting scheme is low maintenance, naturalistic with a cottage garden feel. We used strategically placed buxus balls and lighting to also give structure and interest in the darker winter months.
